How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
Under the general guidance and direction of the Senior Water Resources Engineer, the Technologist, Water Resources Engineering is responsible for the review and commenting on development applications associated with the Planning Act, the Environmental Assessment Act (EA) and applications pursuant to the Conservation Authorities Act, Ontario Regulation 166/06 (O. Reg. 166/06) with focus on water resources engineering. In addition, this position will act as a resource to Water Resources Engineering staff by providing input to designs for internal projects, using engineering practices and computer modelling.
- Regularly provide review and comments to guide design for Minor to Standard development applications related to development concept plans, site plans, zoning amendments, plans of condominium, erosion and sediment controls.
- Provide review and comments to guide design for Minor to Standard level EA applications related to infrastructure maintenance works and minor works, including culvert replacements, utility installations, and minor roadway works.
- Respond to information requests in support of development planning and EA planning applications by preparing, providing hydrologic and hydraulic modelling from TRCA watershed computer models. If follow up is required, will interact with applicant or their consultants to answer questions related to modelling and assist applicant with information provided.
- Provides engineering support to the Flood Infrastructure and Hydrometrics group for the implementation of flood infrastructure assessments and stream gauge location assessments.
- Maintain SWM Soft database, inputting new stormwater management facilities and updating existing facilities within database.
- Attend internal and external meetings, site visits as required to discuss interests of the conservation authority (CA).
- Provides support to the Senior Water Resources Engineer, Water Resources Engineer, and Water Resources Analyst with water resources related projects, the development of TRCA specific engineering guideline documents and standards.
- Maintain advance knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic computer modelling, in an effort to establish solid technical foundation of knowledge.
What you will need to succeed:
- Minimum completion of post-secondary education in an engineering field, including 3-year College diploma in engineering or Bachelor’s degree in engineering, water resources or related discipline.
- Possess or have the ability to obtain P.Eng, LET, CET, or C.Tech designations.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in engineering practice related to development and infrastructure engineering, including best management practices.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team on projects and studies.
- Computer literacy using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access).
- Knowledge of hydrologic/hydraulic computer models, including HEC-RAS, Visual OTTHYMO, and PCSWMM
- Knowledge of legislation, policies, procedures and practices relevant to land use planning, environmental assessment act (provincial, CA, and federal), and water management
- Knowledge of GIS software packages preferred.
- Demonstrated time management, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Good interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with the general public in a positive, courteous and respectful manner.
- Valid Ontario “G” Driver’s License in good standing
